Only 935 Lies
Apparently the Bush administration lied only 935 times in the run-up to the Iraq war.

Me at the Border I spent the weekend at the ADZPCTKO with Nitro , Tatu Joe, Ducky (the Wise) , Tomato, BearCan't , Mattress, Love Barge, Nano, Sly, Disco , WeatherCarrot, Too Obtuse, Nacho, Tall Paul, Mags , and Wildflower (AKA Icognito Cheeto Bandito). I got a ride down with Firefly. I'm tempted to just end my post there, as it would seem like complete gibberish to many of you. But I won't. The ADZPCTKO is the Annual Day Zero Pacific Crest Trail Kickoff, held the last weekend in April (also known as NFL Draft weekend, where, miracle of miracles, the Redskins, despite Dan Snyder's best attempts to screw it up, actually managed to avoid throwing away multiple draft picks on Chad Johnson and instead traded for more picks. ReplyDeleteCompletely unrelated, but on MSNBC.com there is a video of someone who lost their toes during a 64-mile race. I didn't watch it because I don't have the stomach for it, but I just thought I'd give you a heads up.

ReplyDeleteBUT this kind of number is probably inflated in fact. One reads it with the idea that the counterfactual is zero, whereas in fact, I would be interested to know how much leaders from my own preferred party lie (however exactly that's measured) when trying to push through a policy. I imagine it's not close to zero.
That said, it's not an excuse for the disaster that this administration has been and the degree of deceipt. Just an academic point...
True, we don't know the counter-factual, and "I never had sexual relations with that woman" certainly wasn't true either, but I feel safe saying "935 is a lot." But mostly I think it's useful to have all this handy with the admin repeatedly saying "I never said there were direct 9/11-Saddam links"-esque stuff.
